Sacro Monte di Ossuccio
1910
The path of the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, a UNESCO site on Lake Como, develops along an avenue made up of 14 chapels. Their construction dates back to the early seventeenth century. On the summit we find the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso. Tradition links devotion to the Madonna to a white marble statue of Mary. The statue, hidden on the site in times of invasions, was found by a deaf-mute girl who thus received the gift of healing. From this popular legend also derives the name of the Sanctuary itself, which has become a pilgrimage destination over the years. Today the statue is still kept in a chapel inside the building.
